Nasi Lemak in Malaysia

Suhadawati ayob
The most important food in Malaysia is Nasi Lemak. It is really a part of Malaysian culture especially for Malay. People can eat this nasi lemak any time of the day, but in most homes they usually have it for breakfast. They make nasi lemak using coconut cream to mixture it in rice. Spices such as ginger and lemon grass also add for additional fragrance. Screwpine leaves also add into rice while steaming to give it more fragrance. Traditionally, nasi lemak comes as platter with cucumber slices, small dried anchovies, roasted peanuts, hard boiled egg, and hot spicy sauce. Nasi lemak can come with any accompaniments too. For example, chicken, cuttlefish, cockle, beef curry, and paru.
