Nasi lemak

The most important food in Malaysia is nasi lemak. In fact, it has been called the unofficial national dish of Malaysia. People eat this nasi lemak as a breakfast dish, and it is sold early in the morning at roadside stall. However, there are restaurants which serve it as noon or evening meals. They named this food as nasi lemak because the cooking process whereby rice is soaked in rich coconut cream and then the mixture steamed. Traditionally, this comes as a platter with cucumber slices, small dried anchovies, roasted peanuts, hard boiled egg and hot spicy sauce, where it is often packed in newspaper, brown paper or banana leaf. Nasi lemak can also eat with any other accompaniments such as chicken and cuttlefish.
