Malaysia is famous with its variety of foods. Different foods represent different states in Malaysia. All kind of these foods are influenced by that particular states geographical location, their neighbors and also history background. In Terengganu, some cuisines has shown the influenced of Thai culture and taste.
The most important food in Terengganu is keropok. There are two types of keropok that is keropok lekor and keropok keping. It is cracker made of fish made with flour and sagu. The long chewy ones are called keropok lekor while the thin one called keropok keping. Usually, keropok will be eaten with chili dip.
Keropok lekor can be eating in two ways. Either you like it be deep fried or boiled. The boiled one will have some fishy smell especially when it is no longer hot. Where as deep fried is the one that need oil and is very delicious when you eat it together with chili dip. So that, for those who dislike the fishy smell can take the deep fried one.
Keropok keping is the one which is sliced into very thin slice. Then it will be dried under the sun. it need to be fried before can be eat. Chili sauce will make it more delicious. In Terengganu, usually keropok will be eaten as snack and will be served to guest often. Keropok can also be eaten together with fried rice or fried noddle.
It can be concluded that as Terengganu is a place where the culture embrace the heritage, there lots of traditional cuisine that can be exposed to the world. However, keropok can be said as the most important food. It can be found at every and each home in Terengganu, may it be keropok lekor or keropok keping.
